Meet Jason
Rugby, Tech, Our GM Of Engineering Services Is At Home In Any Scrum
“When I first heard about LAB3 I was immediately interested. I already wanted to live and breathe the cloud, and it was a bonus LAB3 was supportive of my planned move from Wellington to Brisbane.”
As a die-hard rugby union fan and former player (right up until his 40s), Jason believes sport translates through to life, and over his career he has made all the right moves to give himself the best chance of achieving his goals. Sport also guides Jason’s approach to building our engineering community and ensuring highly collaborative teams are placed on each client project, with the skill set to achieve each client’s objectives.
Having joined LAB3 as a Technology Delivery Manager, Jason pitched in across wider areas of the business, to build his experience and help the organisation. Jason recently secured a promotion to become the General Manager – Engineering Services.
Jason originally started his tech career as an engineer, as the hardware guy; running cable through ceilings, building computers and servers, and even building datacenters. But Jason has always gravitated to roles which involve helping teams and people deliver great outcomes for organisations and clients.
“As I began to assume leadership roles, my approach has always been to keep an eye on the long game, the outcomes that ultimately need to be reached, and the way to do this comes down to helping people do their thing.”
In terms of his management style, Jason sees people leadership as an art, as opposed to being a science.
“I place enormous value on understanding people as individuals and knowing every person by name; knowing what works well for each person and trying to accommodate this so everyone can thrive in their roles and collaborate as a team. The level of genuine flexibility at LAB3 significantly helps in achieving this.”
His approach is a winning formula! Armed with the knowledge of how every person rolls, Jason is at his best, helping people thrive and organisations achieve more from technology.
In terms of career advice, Jason recommends using humor to get out of trouble, and having dogs to keep you company with remote work.
“My two dogs, the fighting hamsters, run amok in my home office (AKA the garage), and sometimes even provide wider entertainment during Teams meetings.”
