Meet Eddie, Principal Consultant (Cloud & DevOps)
Eddie thrives on getting clients started on their modernisation journeys
“It’s a really cool feeling to typically be first in line on a client’s transformation journey, moving them to a modern platform, the first step to modernising applications.”
Eddie is a key member of the LAB³ Migrations team and is a Principal Consultant (Cloud & DevOps). It’s been over five years, and he’s still not bored.
“Every client is different. There is a different set of applications, different set of priorities, different levels of complexities to deal with. This keeps me on my toes,” says Eddie.
The Migrations team mostly move clients from data centres to Azure. Eddie is currently involved in federal government migrations and has previously helped well-known FSIs and utilities.
“It provides me with a deep sense of purpose to be leading the modernisation of these enterprises,” says Eddie.
“It is also rewarding to be able to use Dr Migrate to analyse client data to help define the migration lifecycle with tangible outcomes. It’s a treat.”
Dr Migrate is Microsoft’s globally endorsed Azure Migration Assessment tool by Altra. LAB³ is a long-time Altra partner and a highly regarded expert in using the tool with LAB³sters provided with training and acquiring certifications.
“Dr Migrate is a valuable tool to gain an understanding of the lay of the land for each client. The insights provided are quite impressive across applications, infrastructure, networks, TCO, and wave planning. This accelerates projects to really catapult migrations forward,” explains Eddie.
Eddie has played key roles in early deployments and the ongoing incremental development of Dr Migrate because of the close relationship between LAB³ and Altra. As somebody thrilled by the potential of newer technologies and innovative ways of doing things, Eddie enjoys collaborative work. In addition to client facing work, there’s ongoing documentation and updates in designs.
“Remote work enables me to regularly meet with engineers across Australia and New Zealand,” says Eddie who describes his colleagues as being “super smart”.
“We’re one team at LAB³ and we extend each other intellectually, that’s for sure.”
Along with the stimulating work, Eddie is also grateful for the ability to work from home most of the time, only travelling into the Melbourne CBD and LAB³ office every so often for social connections with other LAB³sters.
“Without driving every day, I can fit in seven thousand steps of walking in the morning and another three thousand at lunch time,” says Eddie. “It’s my goal to crack ten thousand steps a day and get to the gym early as well.”
