    The neobank is one of Australia’s first and largest neobanks and operates in a highly dynamic industry with rapidly changing business demands. The neobank operates like a traditional bank – but completely digital.

    As a born-in-cloud business facing exponential growth, the neobank chose LAB3 as their strategic cloud partner. They aimed to stay at the forefront of banking technology and continue to provide their customers with secure, and effortless banking experiences.

    Client vision

    The Neobank had a legacy other cloud environment which was no longer fit for purpose and identified moving to Azure Microsoft technology as a path forward.

    Firstly, the neobank wanted to improve their IT processes such as onboarding new staff, consultants, and third-party partners with the right equipment or access.

    Next, their IT service management model also required an uplift, as response times for service requests were starting to impact productivity.

    Thirdly, the neobank wanted to right-size their investments in the cloud to make sure that both dev/test and production environments met the requirements of their growing product portfolio – whether to securely enable the testing of a new debit card product, or support the highly anticipated launch of a new savings app.

    Our fearless approach

    To stay at the forefront of digital banking, the neobank chose LAB3 as their strategic cloud partner. With LAB3 taking care of the cloud layer, the neobank could focus on what it does best – design and build innovative digital banking products and services.

    LAB3 designed and rebuilt all the neobank’s services in Azure. This was achieved by deploying a modern Azure platform – future proofed with all the recommended security configurations and required components for future expansion.

    Next, LAB3 optimised the neobank’s IT service management by providing a range of support services to ensure a fully optimised and monitored environment – all defined as code. This included:


    • Monitoring uptime of technology services and systems
    • Managed services for Microsoft Azure, Modern Workplace and Network Services
    • Full management and support of the other cloud environment to ensure continued services to all their banking customers.


    Further, LAB3 designed, built and migrated the Azure App Service workloads to Kubernetes on Azure to drive scalability and deliver cloud consumption savings. The platform offered white-labeled banking services with secure data storage and advanced analytics capabilities to deliver the geographic reach for the neobank to expand on a national and global scale.

    LAB3 also defined ‘fit-for-purpose pipelines’ to manage distinct layers of the technology stack which extend to security and application workloads. This holistic approach provides the ability to scale and manage platforms with speed and reliability using DevOps practices.

    LAB3 also implemented end-to-end workflows from onboarding to change management via DevOps into a ServiceNow platform.
