LAB3 brings a dose of healthy competition to New Zealand’s cloud market

Internationally recognised leader in Microsoft Azure cloud services, LAB3, has launched in New Zealand, responding to surging demand for cloud migrations and Microsoft’s investment in a local hyperscale datacenter region.

Founded in Australia in 2017 and with an impressive growth trajectory, LAB3 now has over 200 employees and has built an impressive client list and developed an exclusive catalogue of products including LAB3 Dr Migrate. The aim is for this growth to be replicated in New Zealand.

LAB3 has forged a reputation for agility, expertise and execution in Azure. Clients include enterprise organisations including a global ISV, Australian and State government entities
(health, transport, agriculture, and financial regulation), and insurance and banking corporations. Added to these are other ambitious brands, including in fintech (investments and neobanking).

The company has already taken its home country by storm, winning the coveted 2020 Microsoft Growth Partner of the Year Award for Australia. LAB3 is a 13 x Microsoft Gold Partner with 3 x Advanced Specialisations across Migrations, Security and Azure Virtual Desktop. LAB3 supports organisations to modernise with cloud technologies and get ahead of their industries with data-driven solutions in Azure.

The arrival of LAB3 in New Zealand will accelerate cloud migrations, security, and Data IoT & AI

The business launched in New Zealand on 1 July 2021, with David Boyes at the helm as New Zealand CEO and Rich Anderson as New Zealand COO.

Rich Anderson has a wealth of experience in enterprise architecture, methods engineering, IT operations, IT strategy, complex systems delivery projects and consulting leadership.

David Boyes has deep experience in business turnaround, large-scale transformation, new business creation, deal making and organising for performance. He also has deep experience in the technology services sector including enterprise IT, telecommunications, media and fin-tech.

“Across New Zealand, in government and every industry sector, organisations are looking to migrate to the cloud to modernise their technology environments,” said David.

“Post-Covid, there is a need to tap into the power of data, facilitate remote work and meet public expectations of a virtual world. The expertise, reliability and agility of LAB3 makes the Azure cloud an attractive option for organisations looking to modernise quickly with cloud technologies.”

Microsoft plans for hyperscale datacentre region in New Zealand

Microsoft’s plans to bring a hyperscale datacenter region to New Zealand made the timing for the move across the Tasman particularly attractive, enabling many more organisations to leverage the scalability and security of public cloud without needing to send data offshore.

We’ve seen a tremendous acceleration in cloud migration over the past year as organisations have responded to global disruption and conversely, recognised the global opportunities a digital operation brings. Our research with IDC shows public cloud technologies are set to create 102,000 local jobs and add $30 billion to the New Zealand economy over the next four years, so we’re delighted to welcome a partner of LAB3’s calibre to New Zealand, to help more organisations realise those gains even faster,” said Vanessa Sorenson, Managing Director, Microsoft New Zealand.
Chris Cook, Group CEO, LAB3 said: “With LAB3, it is first and foremost about client success. This is what drives our product innovation and our motivation to expand into New Zealand, and we look forward to working closely with Microsoft to deliver more for New Zealand clients.”

Azure migration made easier with LAB3 Dr Migrate

With its foundations firmly in place, LAB3 emerged as a product leader in 2021 with a catalogue of unique solutions that take standard Microsoft offerings to the next level. This includes products across its Cloud, Modern Workplace, Network, Security and Data, IoT and AI practices.

“Along with the pandemic, literally the world became virtual overnight,” said Chris. “To meet client demand, LAB3 accelerated product development to enable clients to move to the cloud quickly and securely and to take advantage of data driven technologies.”

Top of the list is LAB3 Dr Migrate a revolutionary tool that makes safe cloud migration possible within weeks, including for highly regulated enterprises. This significantly reduces the standard migration timeframe, which can take many months or years, by taking out much of the guesswork and manual effort of the traditional approach.
LAB3 is a cloud technology solutions provider. Established in 2017, LAB3 already employs over 200 talented professionals, with operations around Australia and New Zealand and a growing global market presence as an emerging ISV.

LAB3 is one of the largest Microsoft engineering practices in Australia and New Zealand. We have a catalogue of unique solutions that help clients modernise, secure and leverage their data and applications on Azure, on-premise, or in a hybrid state.
